Free Motion Friday - Dorothy's Quilt

Happy Friday everyone!

Before I get started, just a reminder that I am teaching in Mississauga, Ontario in a couple weeks, from June 14-17. There are still spaces available in all of my classes, so be sure to take a look at them! You can find them HERE.

Now, on to Dorothy's quilt.

Dorothy is a member of my Patreon page, meaning that she gets guaranteed first-of-the-line priority on FMF quilts! Patreon is a way to support artists and makers on a monthly basis, and get awesome bonus content. I hope you'll take a look at my page HERE. Right now we are in the middle of a intensive swirls series, and I am sharing everything I know about quilting swirls.

Lets get started on Dorothy's quilt!

I started by making straight lines from point to point of the grey diamonds, through the white space. This turns the sashing into a diamond shape, and adds something unexpected to the sashing.

In every-other diamond, I echoed 1/4" - 1/2" in from the original dividing line, so that when I go in with the fills in the next steps, I have a space splitting the two designs.

In the diamonds without the echos, I did a simple back and forth line.

And in the echoed diamonds, I opted for swirls. Of course, changing the fill designs here would still create the same effect, I just really want to watch that the two designs I choose read very differently from each other.

Now, into the grey diamonds, I did a simple echo, again 1/4" - 1/2" in on each of the diamonds,

I then filled the grey space with ribbon candy. You can see how I do my ribbon candy corners, by checking out this FMF post.  I would use the 3rd option in this case.

And lastly, a simple echo again in the coloured diamonds.

That's it for me! Thanks so much for visiting! If you'd like your quilt to be a part of Free Motion Friday, email a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com

Later days! Kathleen.

PS: Free Motion Friday is possible mostly because I'm able to write posts at work (Quilting From The Heart)! So be sure to check out our website!
