Free Motion Friday – Bubble Swirl

Happy Friday peeps!

P1040321This is a design that I have been trying to figure out how to make work for two years. Since I first started longarming. I think it looks awesome, but for the life of me, I could not figure it out. So, while you’re probably smarter than me and could figure it out no problem, in case you can’t, here we go.

1So, I start with a swirl,

Then swirl back out.

Then an echo around the swirl — this is important — this echo closes off the swirl so we don’t get lost inside said swirl.

Then one more echo.

Which I then fill with bubbles. When I was trying to figure this out, I would start bubbling before the echoing, and then I would get lost with my bubble inside the swirl, going and going and going…

Then, one more echo to finish of the swirl. Sometimes I do more than one echo after the bubbles, particularly if I am trying to get to a certain spot. But I always make sure to have at least one.

7Then, on to the next swirl,

9bubbled & echoed again,

10And so on and so forth. I think it makes a pretty awesome looking texture on a quilt. An is a lot of fun to quilt too 😀

Later days!

  1. Fantastic! It looks so complicated until your tutorial broke it down for us…thanks! I’ll be trying this soon.

  2. This. Is. Awesome. *Seriously* awesome. Thank you so much for detailing the progression; that is an enormous help.

    I can do this! 🙂
