Birthe’s Aviatrix Medallion

I quilted this quilt for Birthe in January! It’s the Aviatrix Medallion pattern, which I love! It’s the 3rd time I’ve quilted this quilt (see mine & Jasmine’s), and so I was trying to make an effort to ensure that this one was different than the others. And I think I succeeded.

There are a lot of feathers and curves in this quilt. I used the Quilted Pineapple’s QP Curve templates for the curves — I actually used all the sizes of this ruler (except the 20). And did more traditional feathers (rather than my Cheater Feathers), so in general it was a whole new thing for me. But I’m pretty happy with the results.

img_0810I’m particularly happy with the X&Plus border (which you can read more about here). And the rail fence border.

And the whole thing, lets not lie 😀

Anyways, that ‘s it for me! Later days!
Kathleen.

  1. What color thread did you use? I’m always a bit stumped about choosing thread colous for such multi-colored quilts. Also do you use 2 layers of batting (and what kind) to enhance the quilting?

    Beautiful work!
