Free Motion Friday - Peacock Swirl & Border
Happy Friday! I've got a new logo this week... this time with my name spelled correctly! Yahoo!!
This week, the design I'm currently obsessed with...
What I call my Peacock Swirl.
We start with a nice easy swirl,
And add a hook on the way out.
Then I add two hooks on my way back up on the echo,
And echo around the hook and the swirl, until I'm in the "V" the swirl makes with the stem.
Then, I add another hook,
And finish the echo down the stem.
I used this design on Jasmine's Aviatrix Medallion, and I think ti worked pretty awesomely :D.
Right now I'm quilting a quilt for my Dad, and using a variation of this design as a border design:
To do this
I start by quilting a wavy line. I don't mark this or measure or anything... I try to get my wave as even as possible, but I'm not to worried if it isn't perfect.
Then, I echo the bump of the wave, and do a swirl in the valley,
I swirl out, echoing back the way I came,
Then hooking in and echoing around my swirl.
The, two hooks, echoing the swirl.
Then, I echo over the hill, and do the same thing in the next valley.
Then back the other direction -- I'm moving in the opposite direction from last time, so my swirls are facing opposite directions.
Anyways, that's it for me this week! If you'd like your quilt to be a part of FMF, email a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com
Later days! Kathleen.
