Wool Week 2025
Join Kathleen and Ardelle for a week of stitching, relaxing, and fun, with our annual Wool Week!
The Project: This year we are doing bring-your-own project! Work on the Sue Spargo or Kathleen Riggins quilt of your choice, or the unpublished Balconyburg or Ardelle's Heartfelt Wishes quilt. Or, use this time to bring your own design ideas to life with Kathleen's guidance! We'll cover a variety of topics as a class, including cotton applique, wool applique, Dorset and Yorkshire buttons, background layering, replacing hard-to-find threads, embroidery stitches, thread choices, combining embroidery stitches, and more! Plus, get one-on-one attention to learn new techniques and get design and project tips from Kathleen and Ardelle.
The Details: Wool Week classes will be held in our classroom in our store in Camrose! We will provide lunches each day, as well as a few snacks. Class runs from 9:30 - 4:30 each day, though our classroom will stay open until 8:00PM each night for those who want to stay later to continue working on their projects.

In this relaxed class we discuss ideas for quilting your quilts! Gather together as we get to know each other while having fun talking about quilts. Bring photo’s and quilt tops with you, and we’ll discuss various designs and techniques for quilting your tops. Whether you’re trying to make a show stopper, or finishing up some quilt tops you just really want done and out of your way, Kathleen will inspire you to get those tops finished!

Doodle Quilting Sampler - Australian Machine Quilters Festival
Make this great sampler quilt to show off some of your favourite quilting designs! Become a better quilter while making something awesome! This fun technique combines 9 extra-mini whole-cloth quilts to create one mini quilt! You aren’t going to want to miss the fun in this class.
Making Shapes - Australian Machine Quilters Festival

Not sure where to start when faced with a large area of negative space? Make shapes! Kathleen walks you through this easy process to create stunning negative spaces. Watch as Kathleen demos three different methods of making shapes on a longarm machine. First, Kathleen will talk about quilting shapes in fills and background spaces before going over how to use shapes to add a second layer of interest to your large negative spaces. Finally, Kathleen shares her most-used shape technique, creating large shapes to emphasize your favourite sections of your quilt. Handout will include all designs used in class.

Sometimes spending that little bit of extra time on a quilt can really make it special. Mark lines & shapes to create stunning negative spaces. It may be time consuming, but it’s not particularly difficult. Combine straight lines with free motion quilting, and you’ve got stunning professional looking quilting!

Learn this particularly versatile design, then practice using it in different ways! Kathleen shows her favourite variations on the swirl so that by learning this one basic design, it opens up a huge variety of different designs for you to use.
