We're going to be making the Dear Jane quilt in this course, but the skills you learn here will be invaluable for future quilts! We'll learn to applique, foundation paper piece, english paper piece, how to make perfect y-seams, inset circles, and piece using templates. We'll trim half square triangles and use smaller pieces of fabric than you'd ever thought you'd use until they seem normal sized. And we're going to have a blast while doing it.

Meet your instructor
Kathleen Riggins
Kathleen is a quilter living in Alberta, Canada. With 30 years of quilting experience and 20 years of teaching, she knows at least a little about almost every aspect of quilting. Quilts others think of as difficult are her jam, and she is perhaps best known for her Free Motion Quilting. When she isn’t quilting she can be found at her family quilt store, Quilting From The Heart, or adventuring with her husband and two boys.

Every week for an entire year you will receive a video with detailed instructions on how to make a new block from the quilt. We'll also go over a few other blocks that use similar techniques that you can attempt on your own. Over the course of the year you'll learn all the techniques you need to complete your quilt top!
Plus, a dedicated Facebook group to share your projects with other students, and ask Kathleen questions? Don't do Facebook? No problem, you're welcome to email Kathleen any questions as well! -
You'll definitely get more out of this class with a basic understanding of how to use a rotary cutter and how to sew a ¼" seam. However, I've taught this class to student's without these skills, so if you're feeling up to a challenge, go wild!

We'll talk about specific tools & fabric requirements inside the class (though think lots of fabric, and all the basic sewing supplies).
You will need a copy of EQ8 + the Dear Jane add on for this class. I also recommend the Dear Jane book by Brenda Manges Papadakis. -
We'll be talking extensively about how to use the software to print templates for all types of techniques. Its going to make your life just way better-- this quilt is enough work without adding extra to it. If you feel comfortable creating your own templates for foundation paper piecing, applique, template piecing and more from the line drawings in the book you can probably get away without the software, but we will not be covering any of these techniques in this class.
