Free Motion Friday - Andrea's Quilt
Happy Friday! Hope you've had a fantastical week! Things are (more) back to normal on the blog today, so here we go.
Andrea says:
I have been working on this quilt top on and off for almost 2 years and am so ridiculously happy to have finally finished it. It’s not going to win any awards as a lot of the blocks used techniques I was trying for the first time, but I love it anyway :)
I’ve also just started trying my hand at long arm quilting and would love your input as I have no idea beyond outlining the appliqué……..
I love this quilt so much! But just a note to anyone thinking about sending me pictures (which hopefully is everyone reading this post...) higher resolution photo's let me do a way better job of drawing and explaining myself. This photo was not particularly high resolution, making drawing harder. So sorry for that, and please, send me some pictures of your quilts!
Here we go!
I started in the borders, doing piano keys about 1/2" apart. I would not have them go right through the border appliques as it is in the picture, but have them look as though they are behind the applique. In certain random areas I would have the straight lines continue into the pieced blocks until they hit some applique or coloured (non-background) fabric.
Then in the appliqued blocks, I'd so some sort of swirly fill in the backgrounds, to contrast with the straight lines of the border.
Then, I'd go in and quilt the pieced blocks... probably pretty randomly, depending on what I felt like in the moment :D
So that's this week! If you want to be apart of Free Motion Friday (and you definitely do) then send a photo of your quilt to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com
Later days! Kathleen.
