Free Motion Friday - Darcie's Quilt
Happy Friday!!!!!! It's a particularly good one, as I got a surprise new computer at work yesterday, so we're back in action for proper FMF posts again!!!! I'm so excited to be back at it, without the annoyance of programs crashing and SLOOOOOWness!! So yay me! I'm feeing pretty spectacular at the moment.
Starting back into things easy, here's Darcie's quilt!
When I was in Jr. High log cabin quilts were my absolute favourite. Yet somehow, I still haven't made a log cabin quilt :D. Such is life I suppose.
Because there is so much happening in the colourful rows, I don't want to spend crazy amounts of time on intricate quilting here -- I'm going to save that for the solid pieces. So, I've drawn out two different options. The first, a long line of feathers! Or the second, to just fill the colourful space with your favourite all-over design!
Then, in the white & beige space is where we get to have fun!!! I decided to do each space of the log cabin in a different design... I've done ribbon candy, just some straight lines, my easy wave fill, zig-zag's, and so on! Basically, it's space to just have some fun. Which is why we quilt in the first place isn't it?
Want to learn a bunch of designs to use in these spaces? Take my "Designs for Lines (and other shapes that don't Rhyme) class at the Australian Machine Quilters Festival! I've also updated my teaching list so take a look at it- including Sparrow Studioz in Edmonton & other dates around Australia! Hopefully I'll see you in a class soon!!!!
Remember, if you want your quilt to be a part of FMF, email a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com! Thanks to everyone who's sent pictures -- I don't have time to get to everyone's (and I almost never actually reply to these emails) but I get them all, and love seeing everyone's quilts! So thanks so much!!! FMF wouldn't be nearly as much fun without everyone's pictures!
Later days, Kathleen.
