Free Motion Friday - Patrice's Quilt
Happy Friday! I'm actually on vacation at the moment -- a week snowboarding in Banff!! I'm writing this just hours before leaving, so forgive me if my brain is already on vacation.
Today, Patrice's Quilt
Patrice sent this quilt, and says,
I was reading about your Free Motion Friday and that perhaps I can send you a picture of a quilt and you might push me in a particular direction.
So here is the background. I am a relatively new quilter but can make my way around the longarm. I quilted this quilt for my son Michael who is in the US Navy and a huge Ohio State fan as a gift for his most recent return from deployment. I'm stumped on how to quilt it. Can you help me get started?
Of course I can help you get started :D
I've been in a feather mood. So in my heart I want to put feathers everywhere...
But it's a sports quilt for a dude, so probably not appropriate. So I'd probably fillt he background and the center of the "O" with my diamonds-- the tutorial for them can be found HERE. I think they are appropriately sporty. But my brain is on vacation, so I didn't draw it out. Sorry. And I promise, they aren't as hard as they look.
Then, we'll keep it nice and simple on the rest of the quilt, with some dot-to-dot in the (crazy awesome) checkerboard border.
And in the "O" I echoed it, then filled with whatever fill you like to do... I went with swirls...
I'd stitch in the ditch around the grey areas, but not quilt inside them.
I actually love this quilt. I want to make a big "R" for Rocky now. And quilt it to death :D
Remember, if you want your quilt to be part of Free Motion Friday (and why wouldn't you? It's so much fun!) email a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com
Later days! Kathleen.
