Free Motion Friday - Chelsea is a Rock Star

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! FREE MOTION FRIDAY!

It has been quite a week. I'm still a little bit unsure of how this became my life.

Chelsea was in a FMF post before HERE.  She got her quilt finished, and sent pictures!! Yay

I just love it so much!

I love when people send me pictures! If you've been part of FMF, or used something I showed on my blog, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send pictures! It makes me so happy to see what everyone is doing!

She sent another quilt picture with her finished quilt pictures:

She says:

If you have the chance, I'd love your thoughts on a different quilting design for the Tiny Dancer quilt. This one is a mirror image of the blue Tiny Dancer quilt and I made it the same time I was piecing the blue one. It has a lot of white space which will be awesome for free motion quilting.

So lets do this! I cropped the picture so we are just looking at one block to hopefully make things a bit easier.

1

I started with a bracket/flame/leaf/Kathleen's Magic Shape. This is at the moment, my favourite shape to quilt. It fits everywhere, looks awesome, and is all sorts of fun to quilt.

2

And then did one reflected as well.

3

Then, added feathers on one side,

4

And the other.

This makes a wonky feather wreath thing. With feathers going all different directions, which I like. However, if you like things a bit more controlled, you could stitch a circle in the center, and do a proper feather wreath around.

Something similar to how I quilted Angie's quilt

5

Next, I echoed the inside -- not a full echo, if you look it meets on the sides, mainly so I don't have to start and stop my thread. I can just keep on going.

6

Then I filled in the center with wishbones.

Usually, what I would do now, is go in and fill the area behind the feathers with a dense fill of somesort

I love a feather that pops.

However, this time, I really wanted to make... movement I guess. So it almost looks like those pinwheels are spinning.

7

So I echoed around the feathers. Which I think creates the desired effect.

8

Then, some continuous curve in the triangles.

finished

And here it is drawn on a large portion of the quilt.

Remember, if you want your quilt to be a part of Free Motion Friday, make my day, and send a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com! I love seeing your pictures, even if I can't get to your quilt on the blog.

Later days! Kathleen.
