Free Motion Friday - Eve's Quilt
Eve says:
Hi, I wonder if you had any ideas for how I can quilt this top? It's 25" x 22", hand-pieced, and I have had it sitting on the design wall for five years now! I suspect I'll need to learn how to machine quilt for this one, but when I finally do, it'd be lovely to have ideas. It's my own design.
So here we go!
I started with wavy lines through the solid strips, extending them through the border. They could be even, uneven... however you like to quilt them. I thought they looked water-y though.
I then went in and added some bubbles too. Cuz I can.
The, I did some dot to dot in one half of the triangles, including the ones in the shell. I didn't draw them all out... because sometime's I 'm lazy. (ok, usually.)
Then, I'd fill in the dot-to-dot with bubbles in the water and sand, and some back and forth lines in the shell.
In the border, I'd fill in wherever I don't have wavy lines with straight lines. (on the left hand side of the picture... like I said, sometimes I'm too lazy to draw EVERYTHING).
In the shell, I'd do some swirly fills in the large area, then graduate into a "banana" curved line going around the shell, to emphasise that curl.
At this point I thought I was done... until I realised that while we did dot-to-dot one one side of the triangles, I had forgotten the other side of the triangles...
Which I would fill with a continuous curve, filled with straight lines. I want to change the texture here, which is why I didn't fill with bubbles again.
That's it for this week! Remember, if you want to be a part of FMF, send an email with a picture of your quilt top to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com.
Later days! Kathleen.
