Free Motion Friday - Judy C's Quilt
Happy Friday! I now I've been a bit MIA the last couple weeks... but life happens. I'm trying not to stress about it. It was easter, then the Central Alberta Quilters Guild show, so I was away.... and just not into it. So no blog posts. Such is life. I refuse to be stressed out about a blog. Today we have Judy C.'s quilt!
I have such mad love for wonky stars. I need more in my life.
I started by drawing a box around a random star.
Then echoing the star inside of this. I didn't draw it out, but now that I'm thinking things through, I'd actually echo around all the stars.
Then I filled the space inside the star with a swirly fill.
Then, echoed around the outside of the box.
Then, I drew some lines extending out from the box. I sort of tried to make it look like they were extending from the points of the star. I drew them going right over the other stars, but if I were quilting this I wouldn't do that -- I would stop the line at the star (or the echo around it) and then continue the line from the other side of the star.
Then, echo these lines.
The, two different fills in alternating sections. I went with a swirly one, and one with straight lines. I want it to be very obvious that these are DIFFERENT fills.
I kept it simple inside the actual stars -- some continuous curve in the points, and a simple "X" through the centre.
That's FMF this week! If you would like your quilt to be a part of Free Motion Friday, email a picture of it to kathleen(at)kathleenquilts.com
Later days! Kathleen
